Manchester City were in unstoppable form at Portman Road on Sunday afternoon. Check out the best facts and Opta data from the game with our Ipswich vs Man City stats page.

This wasn’t the day that Manchester City announced their return to the Premier League title race – that ship has long since sailed – but this dominant win may just be the catalyst they need for a strong second half of 2024-25.

City’s travails this season have been well-documented and consistent, and their five-game unbeaten run coming into this game won’t have convinced many that they were back to their best. That is largely because that run included a draw at Brentford in midweek in which City threw away a two-goal lead in the final eight minutes of the game.

There wouldn’t, therefore, have been universal confidence that they would see off an Ipswich Town side here who have already beaten Tottenham and Chelsea this season, but the champions dispelled any doubts with a barnstorming attacking display that had more than a hint of classic City under Pep Guardiola.

Phil Foden got the party started, scoring twice and setting up Mateo Kovacic for another to establish a 3-0 half-time lead. After failing to score from 24 shots in his first 11 Premier League appearances of the season, Foden now has six goals from 18 shots in his last six games.

City picked up where they left off after the break, with Jérémy Doku, Erling Haaland and James McAtee all netting to hand City their biggest Premier League win of the season.

It was the 13th time City have scored 6+ goals in a Premier League game under Guardiola, as many times as Arsenal did under Arsène Wenger, with only Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United (14) netting 6+ on more occasions in the competition. This performance will have Guardiola hoping he can chase down Ferguson’s record before long.

For Ipswich, this was the first time they had conceded as many as six goals in a game in any competition since November 2012, when they lost 6-0 to Leicester in the Championship.

Kieran McKenna’s side remain in the relegation zone with 16 points from 22 games.
