Iran, China Voice Concern on Chaos in Syria

During his first official visit to a country outside the region as the foreign minister of Iran, Abbas Araqchi met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing.

The two senior diplomats talked about the relations between Iran and China and the latest regional and international developments, especially the political upheavals in West Asia.

The Iranian and Chinese ministers expressed concern about the consequences of chaos and insecurity in Syria, stressed the need to protect Syria’s national unity and territorial integrity, and called for the clam and safe transition of power in the Arab country that would result in a government fulfilling the demands of the whole Syrian society.

Araqchi and Wang Yi also emphasized that the Middle East belongs to its people alone, stressing that actors from outside the region must be prevented from interfering in the Middle East with the purpose of achieving their geopolitical objectives.

The two diplomats further discussed the course of cooperation between Iran and China in various fields such as commerce, transportation, energy, and investment, and weighed plans to strengthen relations within the framework of a comprehensive cooperation agreement.

In a post on his X account on Saturday, Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baqaei said Foreign Minister Araqchi “had very fruitful comprehensive talks with his Chinese counterpart… on a wide range of bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest.”

“Iran and China as comprehensive strategic partners are determined to expand their close consultations with a view to deepening their bilateral ties for the good of their peoples and for further contributing to the rule of law at the int'l level, peace and security,” the spokesman added.
