Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday, described relations between Iran and Pakistan as “friendly and brotherly.”
He stressed the need to strengthen cooperation, particularly in border management, combating terrorism, and expanding energy partnerships.
"Iran and Pakistan must solidify their borders as symbols of peace and friendship," Pezeshkian said.
Pezeshkian also highlighted the necessity of fostering unity across the Islamic world.
He called for enhanced economic cooperation among Islamic nations through the creation of a unified currency and the utilization of shared markets, stating that such measures are critical in the current global climate.
"Iran is ready to work with all Islamic countries, especially Pakistan, to achieve these significant goals," he added.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Iran’s proposal for a unified Islamic currency and stronger economic collaboration.
He described Pezeshkian’s remarks at the D-8 summit as “crucial and vital” for the Islamic world.
Sharif also condemned Israel’s criminal actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, along with its violation of Iran’s sovereignty.
He emphasized the need for greater cooperation and unity among Islamic nations to counter shared threats.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the stalled gas pipeline agreement between Iran and Pakistan.
Both sides agreed that their energy ministers would swiftly identify and address the main obstacles to ensure the project’s implementation.
Pezeshkian and Sharif also addressed issues concerning delays faced by Iranian trucks at the Pakistan border. Sharif assured his Iranian counterpart that the problem would be resolved promptly.
Following his participation in the D-8 summit and discussions on the situations in Gaza and Lebanon, President Pezeshkian returned to Tehran late Thursday. During the brief and intensive visit, Pezeshkian met with the presidents of Egypt and Turkey, Pakistan's prime minister, and the Secretary-General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation.
