Democratic California Rep. Sara Jacobs mocked Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s shoes to his face Wednesday.
After Jacobs asked Rubio to state who won the 2020 presidential election, Rubio reminded Jacobs, “This is a foreign affairs committee.”
“Okay, great. You can’t answer the question,” Jacobs said, raising her voice as Rubio attempted to talk.
Jacobs persisted in her attempts to interrupt Rubio as he tried to explain that, as secretary of state, he avoids commenting on domestic political issues. (RELATED: Everything Is Coming Up Marco Rubio)
“Mr. Secretary, it seems like you have an issue admitting facts,” Jacobs asserted. “You can’t say that the president lost the 2020 election, just like you won’t admit President Trump is losing this reckless war of choice, and just like you couldn’t admit that the shoes the president bought you were too big.”
Jacobs continued her rant. By the time she finished, Rubio looked confused.
“I don’t know what shoes she’s talking about. What is she talking about?” he asked.

Jacobs was likely referring to a photo of Rubio wearing oversized dress shoes. Leftists breathlessly mined the photo for psychological insight into Trump and Rubio.
Rubio continued: “I don’t know about the shoes. [Trump] gave me some Florsheim shoes, they’re actually pretty good, they fit fine, I don’t know what she’s talking about, maybe that’s what she’s referring to.”
Jacobs interjected: “Your shoes look very nice today, Mr. Secretary.”
“How can you see them? They’re way down here,” said Rubio. “We’re talking about shoes. Are you guys kidding me? I mean, is this the Foreign Affairs Committee or is this a circus? What is this?”
Rubio was supposed to testify before the House Foreign Affairs Committee regarding President Donald Trump’s foreign policy agenda amid the Iran conflict. Jacobs’ snark is grating. She conducts herself with open and unclever rudeness, probably because she confuses an aggressive lack of manners for strength.
Conversely, Rubio remains fairly calm, shrugging off Jacobs’ dig at his shoes with a joke. The secretary of state does appear bothered by the evident lack of seriousness in the House. As are most onlookers, I imagine.
