Christopher Hope, political editor, has criticised Kemi Badenoch's new shadow cabinet as "shallow" and lacking "big beasts".

Speaking to GB News, Christopher said: "For me it's a shallow cabinet. Not not a really beefed up Shadow Cabinet because many of the big beasts are now on the backbenches."

He added that Badenoch has four years to get her team "match fit" for the next election. However, Hope noted: "I am struck on a first glance at this. It looks like 80% of the jobs have gone to Kemi Badenoch supporters."

Kemi Badenoch has unveiled her new shadow cabinet, with several key appointments announced. Dame Priti Patel has made a comeback as shadow foreign secretary, whilst Mel Stride has been named shadow chancellor.

Chris Philp has been appointed shadow home secretary, with Robert Jenrick taking on the role of shadow justice secretary.

Laura Trott will serve as shadow education secretary, and Ed Argar as shadow health secretary.

James Cartlidge has been given the position of shadow defence secretary.

Notably absent from the lineup is Tom Tugendhat, who has not been given a role in the new shadow cabinet.
