CV NEWS FEED // The Vatican may reinstate on the official calendar for the 2025 Jubilee Year the previously removed, controversial LGBT pilgrimage, according to Italian news outlet ANSA

The event, organized by La Tenda di Gionata (Jonathan’s Tent), a group promoting LGBT ideology under the guise of pastoral care, was originally scheduled for Sept. 6, 2025. After being listed on the official Vatican Jubilee calendar, it was removed from the website following public backlash.

ANSA reported that a spokesperson for the Vatican press office stated that the removal was due to “missing information,” such as the expected number of participants and the nature of the event. The spokesperson added that the event could be reinserted once the necessary details were provided. However, Tenda di Gionata claims it was not informed of the decision. Innocenzo Pontillo, the group’s president, complained to the LGBT site gay.it: “We know nothing, no one has given us an explanation.”

Monsignor Rino Fisichella, the Vatican official overseeing Jubilee events, previously stated in comments regarding the event, “Everyone is welcome.” The Vatican clarified that it is only responsible for the 35 major events of the Jubilee and distanced itself from other activities listed in the calendar, which it said are the sole responsibility of proposing groups or dioceses.

Jonathan’s Tent claims the Vatican approved their pilgrimage to “officially cross the Holy Door of the Jubilee at St. Peter’s Basilica” on Sept. 6 followed by a Mass at the Jesuit Church of the Gesù. Monsignor Francesco Savino, vice president of the Italian Bishops’ Conference, is scheduled to celebrate the Mass, with a prayer vigil planned the evening before.

Despite public backlash and the event’s removal from the official Jubilee website, Jonathan’s Tent continues to advertise it.

Italian journalist Luisella Scrosati, writing for La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana, condemned the event as a “defeat” for Church moral doctrine, accusing leaders of offering “false mercy” that undermines Catholic teaching on human sexuality. Scrosati further argued that such initiatives promote the “lie” that disordered tendencies are compatible with one’s God-given nature.

Efforts to clarify Vatican support for the pilgrimage have yielded mixed responses. Vatican officials, including spokesperson Matteo Bruni, remained silent when questioned about Pope Francis’ stance. Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, who was reportedly supportive, deflected inquiries back to Jubilee organizers. Meanwhile, the Church of the Gesù’s rector refused to comment.
