US senator J.D. Vance of Ohio and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz – the running mates of former US president Donald Trump, the Republicans’ nominee, and US Vice-President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee – will take the stage for a debate that could help produce a clear front-runner in what has proved a tight race, with election day little more than a month away.

While Harris now leads Trump in The New York Times’s average of national polls, the race remains too close to call in the seven key battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

With US-China friction, American economic issues and escalating violence in the Middle East all likely to factor into the debate, it promises to be a compelling event – and you can follow the action right here.
