Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson confirmed that quarterback Trevor Lawrence is a doubt to start this weekend.

The Jaguars, who are enduring a miserable 2-7 season, are slated to face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 10 Sunday.

However, the franchise may have to take on the 6-2 Vikings without their main signal caller after Pederson confirmed Friday that it's trending to Mac Jones starting in Lawrence's place.

Cause for concern grew in Jacksonville amid a stuttering start to the season last week when Lawrence, who inked a massive new contract in the offseason, sustained an injury to his non-throwing shoulder.

As the Jaguars’ season spirals further, Lawrence was said to be receiving treatment to the arm and was weighing up his options for the future, according to Ian Rapoport.

The signal caller sustained an injury to his non-throwing shoulder during last week's loss

The extent of the injury is not currently known with Pederson saying Wednesday that Lawrence was 'sore' and would be limited in practice.

The quarterback signed a five-year contract extension in June worth a reported $275million with $200m guaranteed.

The move, which is set to keep him in Jacksonville until 2030, was the franchise's biggest move of the summer.

The team also added two talented former LSU stars in the draft – wide receiver Brian Thomas and defensive tackle Mason Smith – not to mention the signing of Arik Armstead, who had anchored the San Francisco 49ers defensive line over the last nine years.

However, the Jaguars' season swiftly unraveled, losing their first four games of the season amid a woeful 2-7 record.

And with tensions running high in Florida, Lawrence admitted earlier in the campaign that they 'suck.'

'We know we got a good group, we got good players and we can be a really good offense, but clearly we're not,' Lawrence said following a 18-13 loss to the visiting Cleveland Browns in September. 'Everybody's got to take accountability, look in the mirror and fix it.

'I got to play better, I'm the leader of this offense, it's on me. Wideouts gotta play better, line's gotta play better, running backs gotta play better, gotta coach better. It's everybody, honestly.'

Lawrence has been mediocre at best. The former Clemson star has completed just 168 of 274 passing attempts so far for 11 touchdowns with six interceptions.
