Vice President J.D. Vance roasted neoconservative Fox News pundit Marc Thiessen amid an online debate among conservatives about grocery costs and the price of a burrito.
Thiessen responded to an anecdote shared by Turning Point USA’s Andrew Kolvet. Kolvet said he was approached by a Turning Point college student who was concerned about the cost of a $20 burrito and the increase in grocery prices since the COVID-19 pandemic. As conservatives duke it out online, a new study from the Urban Institute found that nearly two-thirds of working-age adults use credit cards to buy groceries. Many of these people struggle to pay off the bills and go into debt.
“There is a substantial portion of people all around us who are having trouble being able to afford groceries and meet their basic needs,” Kassandra Martinchek, a senior research associate at the Urban Institute, told The Washington Post.
Thiessen recently attacked Vance in a Washington Post column, blaming the vice president for the breakdown of negotiations between the U.S. and Iran. (RELATED: ROOKE: Anti-Vance Crew Turn To The Worst Possible Allies To Influence The MAGA Base)
“Vance is lashing out at those with the temerity to point out that his memorandum of understanding has failed to change Iran’s behavior or produce a deal to end the war,” he wrote. “His failure has made a resumption of major combat inevitable.”
He ended the piece by urging President Donald Trump to ignore Vance and other conservative and Republican voices who have pushed for military restraint or a negotiated end to the war.
“Perhaps it’s time for the president to take the advice of those who have delivered him success in Iran — not those like Vance who have failed him,” he wrote.
Thiessen previously argued “there is no downside to striking the regime,” in a January column before the Iran War.
“Trump has already done so twice, and each time, Iran was unable or unwilling to retaliate,” he continued. “Indeed, the Soleimani strike came at a time when Iran was much stronger than it is today. Since then, Iran has suffered repeated blows that have left it weaker than at any time since the 1979 revolution.”
