Jeff Glor, who navigated a unique career journey at CBS News that had him lead “CBS Evening News” during a rough period and then lend new momentum to the network’s Saturday-morning news program, is leaving the news division, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Glor, who has co-anchored the Saturday morning broadcast since 2019, will exit amid a significant wave of layoffs at parent corporation Paramount Global, parent company of CBS..

CBS News declined to make executives available for comment. News of Glor’s departure was previously reported on social media by Puck News.

Glor joined CBS News in 2007, after working for four years as the weekend evening news anchor and a weekday reporter for Boston’s WHDH. Within two years, he was being picked for prominent roles, including lead anchor on the streaming service once known as CBSN; a two year stint as the Saturday anchor of “CBS Evening News”; and a four year run as the show’s Sunday anchor. He also anchored a previous incarnation of CBS News’ morning program, “The Early Show,” in 2011. He also worked for “60 Minutes Sports,” an extension of the famous newsmagazine that aired on Showtime.

Glor anchored “CBS Evening News” starting in 2017 following an exit by the previous full-time anchor, Scott Pelley. During his time behind that show’s desk, he brought back the iconic “Eye on America” segment and broadcast live from France’s Élysée Palace, a first for any American network. During his final seconds on the evening newscast in 2019, he ceded the screen to a running list of dozens of staffers who helped put the show on every night. “Their hours are long and often unpredictable. Their family and friends are unfailingly patient. I am awed every day by their dedication to writing the first draft of history, and telling America’s story,” Glor told viewers. “I am awed by their grace. I thank them – and you. I’ll see you soon.”

But he may have gained most traction for co-hosting the Saturday-morning program, a show that allowed for deeply-reported features on food, music and travel. During Glor’s tenure on the show along with Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson, the Saturday A.M. broadcast at one point in 2021 won more viewers than the Saturday broadcast of “Today” —  the first time it had accomplished that feat since debuting in 2012.

Glor “keeps pivoting,” said Miller, during a 2021 interview. “I will always go back to Winston Churchill. One of my favorite quotes is ‘Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.’”
