SYDNEY – A Jetstar Airways plane narrowly avoided a collision with another aircraft at Sydney Airport on Aug 9, the budget carrier said in a statement.
“Our aircraft was following instructions by Air Traffic Control when the pilots were forced to brake firmly after another aircraft came in close proximity,” the Jetstar spokesperson said. “We have commenced an investigation into the incident.”
ABC News reported that the other aircraft involved is owned by Qatar Airways and no passengers were injured.
Qatar Airways didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Jetstar, Australia’s dominant budget airline, last week announced new charges for passengers using overhead luggage bins beginning in 2027. The airline is owned by Qantas Airways.
Airservices Australia is reviewing the incident and will assist with any safety investigation, the air traffic operator said. Bloomberg
