Things went less than well for President Joe Biden in his farewell address, as not only did he paint a bleak picture of America that utterly failed to comport with the picture his administration has tried to paint of America, but he also pulled one of his classic gaffes and read instructions off the teleprompter. Predictably, he faced much mockery over the subject online.
In the incident at hand, the elderly president, while speaking at one point during the address, kept reading off the teleprompter for too long and said, as he was meant to move on from the quote he had been rattling off, “end of quote.” As one commenter online put it, “That gaffe sums up his embarrassing presidency.”
As could be expected, the online blowback was awesome and severe. Amongst those who quickly chimed in was Gabriella Hoffman, Director of the Independent Women’s Forum. She said, “My thoughts on President Joe Biden’s Farewell Address: It was underwhelming and divisive. I’m relieved his four-year term is coming to an end.”
She added, “Mr. Biden failed to bring Americans together and pushed terrible “whole of government” policies that weakened us on many fronts: energy, national security, economics/small business, foreign affairs, and general freedoms.History won’t look kindly on Biden’s tenure. He’s now the most unpopular U.S. President in history.”
Also chiming in was Outkick’s Clay Travis, who wrote, roasting Joe Biden for the teleprompter mistake and the Democrats for trying to run him, “Joe Biden can’t even read. Every time he speaks it gets worse. Trying to run him in 2024 is the most reckless and indefensible presidential decision in any of our lives.”
Fox News Channel host Greg Gutfeld, chiming in on X, wrote, “What an embarrassing and pathetic end to an embarrassing and pathetic term.” Similarly, Rep. Nancy Mace, commenting on the absurd content of Biden’s speech, said, “Joe Biden discussing democracy, a free press, institutions and the abuse of power in his final farewell speech is rich.”
Still others chimed in as well. “Bonchie,” a writer for conservative news publication RedState, said, “Biden ends his presidency by using rhetoric that would be right at home in a third-world communist dictatorship. This may be the worst farewell speech in presidential history.” And Rep. Darrell Issa, slamming Biden, wrote, “Joe Biden’s going out of office the same way he went in: Petty, partisan, and frankly not telling the truth.”
Dan Turrentine, a historian, lobbyist, and show host, also slammed the president and the content of his farewell address, saying, “I’m stunned. I’m no historian, but, I don’t recall a more dark Presidential farewell address? It’s more a cry to the DNC than accentuating the positive to the country. This is sad.” Watch the Biden incident here:
Former President Barack Obama, for his part, chiming in and praising Biden, said, “Four years ago, in the middle of a pandemic, we needed a leader with the character to put politics aside and do what was right. That’s what @JoeBiden did. At a time when our economy was reeling, he drove what would become the world’s strongest recovery – with 17 million new jobs, historic wage gains, and lower health care costs. He passed landmark legislation to rebuild our nation’s infrastructure and address the threat of climate change. I’m grateful to Joe for his leadership, his friendship, and his lifetime of service to this country we love.”
