John Oliver was visibly emotional as he gave an impassioned speech encouraging viewers to vote for Kamala Harris in the 2024 U.S. Election – adding that he wants to live in a world where Donald Trump is not an 'active threat.'
Speaking on Sunday's episode of his talk show, Last Week Tonight, the British-born presenter, 47, acknowledged that while the Democratic presidential candidate did not have perfect policies he would be casting a vote for her.
Oliver said: 'Elections alone aren't sufficient for large-scale change, but they're absolutely necessary for it to ever happen.
'Because it's the day you essentially get to choose who you'd prefer to be pushing for the next four years and where you'll be pushing them from.'
At this point, Oliver, who moved to the U.S. in 2006, appeared to fight back tears as he continued: 'Look, I love this country. I'm an immigrant. I chose to be here.

'In the words of the late, great Lee Greenwood: "I'm proud to be an American."
'And I'd argue there is nothing more American than having a healthy, adversarial relationship with those in power, even if you voted for them.'
Oliver then admitted that a Trump defeat would bring him great excitement as he believed it would mark the end of his attempt for presidency.
He said: 'I know this hasn't been a very uplifting speech, if it helps at all there's one final thing: I'm going to be genuinely excited for on Tuesday and that is, if Donald Trump loses this election, he's basically finished.
'I know he would put us through hell before he left the stage, but when the dust settled, he'd have lost two elections in a row and would be campaigning as an 82-year-old next time. I think he'd be done.
'And doesn't that sound great? I know, the problems that he's a symptom of would of course remain, but we wouldn't have to deal with him anymore.
'Wouldn't it be great to live in a world where he's no longer an active threat, just an annoyance?... I want so badly to live in that world.
The race is on, with less than 24 hours to go until Election Day
'And I hope everyone does everything in their power in the next 48 hours to make that world possible.'

Taking to X, one said: 'That's it. This is the most important endorsement any candidate could get.'
Another posted: 'This is just so well-f**king said.'
'This why I Love John Oliver he tells it like it Is!!! Trump will be a Disaster in Second Term America!!! Let's do this!!!' a third added.
