Jon Stewart offered a live commentary on Donald Trump's speech during the White House Correspondents' Dinner, which was packed full of attempted jokes and awkward silence aplenty.

In the Daily Show monologue above Stewart goes through line by line, playing everything from a clip of the U.S. president deciding halfway through a sentence to change the target of his joke — "Oh my God, don't tell us you're changing the target of your roast joke halfway through the joke!" yells Stewart. "We don't know the target, just change it!" — to footage of Trump blaming his speech writer for a joke not landing ("Who the hell wrote that line?" repeats Stewart. "Um, it sounds like you? It sounds exactly like something you would say.").

Ultimately, one of Stewart's lines near the start probably sums things up best.

"You know, normally I'd say don't quit your day job, but in this case I will make an exception."
