Judo: Upper Austria Grand Prix Wraps Up in Style

The final day in Linz delivered thrilling judo action! Giorgi Jabniashvili, Yuliia Kurchenko, Ivan Felipe Silva Morales, Celia Cancan, and Guram Tushishvili claimed gold. Spectacular ippons and intense battles made for an unforgettable event, proving Upper Austria a perfect host!

Welcome back to beautiful Upper Austria — a region known for its stunning landscapes and rich culture. But today, it’s the world-class judo taking center stage in Linz for the heavyweights!

At -90kg, Giorgi JABNIASHVILI had been in fantastic form all day, the highlight being this thrilling ippon during the quarter-finals. He took home the gold medal with Georgian fans cheering him on.

In the women’s -78kg category, Yuliia KURCHENKO delivered an outstanding performance, throwing Emma REID for ippon in a decisive and impressive finish. With that victory, Kurchenko claimed her first-ever Grand Prix gold medal — a huge milestone in her judo career.

In the -100kg, Ivan Felipe SILVA MORALES took the top spot on the podium - a fifth Grand Prix gold for the Cuban after a tactical victory.

Awarding the medals was IJF Head Referee Director Mr Armen BAGDASAROV.

In the women’s +78kg final, Celia CANCAN secured her first-ever Grand Prix gold medal in an all-French showdown. Cancan’s strategic approach made all the difference.

On hand to award the medals was Upper Austria Minister of Economy & Sports Mr Markus ACHLEITNER.

In the +100kg, Guram TUSHISHVILI faced Lukas KRPALEK. A clash of two judo titans! In an epic encounter, it was the Georgian who claimed victory. A clever dropping technique, scored a match winning yuko! Another medal for his impressive collection.

Throughout the day, the Austrian fans were treated to a spectacular showcase of world-class judo, with plenty of thrilling ippon moments that brought the crowd to their feet.
