A Kansas sex offender dad shot dead his wife and four children before he called 911 to report he had “killed” his family and took his own life in an apparent murder-suicide
Ronald Williams, 53, gunned down his wife Kelly George, 44, and their children, Carol Williams, 9; 7-year-old Ronald Williams Jr.; Sarah Williams, 5, and Kelly Magee-Williams, 3, at a home in Winfield, Kan., around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation revealed.
Williams called an emergency dispatch unit, where he admitted to killing his family and “intended to kill himself,” investigators said.
A single gunshot was heard when cops swooped on the property – before they found six people with gunshot wounds at around 11 a.m.
“It is believed Williams Sr. killed the five family members prior to placing the 911 call, and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after law enforcement arrived,” the KBI said.
Neighbors were left disturbed by what unfolded inside the home.
“I heard what happened, and once I heard it was a whole family and children, it just made my stomach churn actually,” Ann Stofferan told KWCH-TV.
“And I just felt so sad and heartbroken for that family. Because I just can’t imagine what that man was thinking to do that. I just can’t.”
Williams reportedly told his wife, “I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it, I’m going to call the cops and I’m going to do it,” according to another neighbor.
“But I never knew what he was talking about. How do you kill your own family? How do you do that? I just don’t get it,” she said.
“In my 20-plus years here, no, I can’t remember anything remotely close to this,” Robbie DeLong, the Winfield police chief, said at a press conference Tuesday.
DeLong told reporters cops had received calls about “erratic behavior” where Williams had confronted and yelled at people.
“I can’t say that anything would have indicated where we are today,” he said.
Registered sex offender Williams, who had a slew of aliases, was convicted in September 1998 when he was in his 20s for attempted indecent liberties in an incident involving a 15-year-old girl in Kansas City.
His registration on the sex offenders register was due to expire in July 2028, according to the KBI.
He also faced charges for battery, attempted rape, burglary, and drugs, according to court records seen by KCTV.
The KBI and Winfield cops are investigating the shooting.
