A juror seated on teen killer Karmelo Anthony's murder trial was left open mouthed as she viewed a photo of Austin Metcalf's wounded heart on Saturday.

Collin County's Chief Medical Examiner Dr Elizabeth Ventura presented autopsy photo evidence to jurors over the weekend, explaining that Anthony's folding knife 'completely went through [Metcalf's] heart wall' as the 19-year-old looked away from the pictures.

Anthony is standing trial for Metcalf's murder and has maintained that he acted in self-defense during the deadly folding knife attack at a track meet in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025.

Defense lawyers suggested Metcalf may have impaled himself on Anthony's knife.

The trial began last Thursday with the state resting its case on Saturday. Multiple witnesses, including several teens present at the meet, trashed Anthony's self-defense claim and contended that he had a folding knife ready in his hands as Metcalf stood near him to push him.

The teenagers argued about seating under the Memorial High School track tent before Metcalf was fatally stabbed in the heart.

The trial is expected to last two weeks with the defense set to continue presenting its case today.

Juror left open mouthed as she reviewed photo evidence of Austin Metcalf's stabbed heart

A female juror seated on Karmelo Anthony's murder trial was left visibly shocked after Collin County's Chief Medical Examiner Dr Elizabeth Ventura presented autopsy photo evidence of Austin Metcalf's heart to the court on Saturday.

The medical examiner explained that Metcalf had one stab wound to the chest that pierced the bone in the center of his torso and the sack that surrounded his heart.

The stab wound, she said, was 2 inches in length and 'completely went through the heart wall.'

Anthony looked away as his lawyers reviewed the photographs.

Metcalf's parents and most of his family left the courtroom before the evidence was shown.

Metcalf was declared dead at the hospital on the morning of April 2 shortly after he was stabbed at the Frisco track meet by Anthony.

The medical examiner says the wound Metcalf sustained not survivable and that the cause of death was homicide.

Later in the day, Anthony's defense attorney tried to suggest that Metcalf might have impaled himself on the young teen's knife before court was adjourned.

Karmelo Anthony murder trial resumes Monday

The murder trial of Karmelo Anthony will resume at the Collin County Courthouse in McKinney, a Dallas suburb, today at 9am CT/10am ET.

He is accused of murdering Austin Metcalf, 17, in April 2025 after stabbing the athlete at a high school track meet at Kuykendall Stadium. Metcalf bled out in his brother's arms.

Prosecutors claim the attack was a 'senseless murder,' but Anthony has pleaded not guilty and insisted he was acting in self-defense.

The case shocked America, and the discussion surrounding it quickly became racially fraught.

Notably, no black jury members were selected in the high-profile trial.

Austin Metcalf's teammate says Karmelo Anthony was provoking him on Friday

On Friday, a 17-year-old boy who was on Austin Metcalf's track team testified that Karmelo Anthony was provoking Metcalf before the football star pushed him.

During the back and forth between the pair, Anthony had his hands in the backpack, the boy said.

After Anthony stabbed Metcalf in retaliation, he threw the knife up the bleachers and ran away. The young witness says he did not expect the stabbing to occur.

'Austin fell onto the bleacher onto this back. And then he got up and went against the fence and guard rail and his chest was all bloody,' he explained. 'I think he said, "oh my god."'

Prosecutors asked the boy how hard Metcalf pushed Anthony, to which he explained that it was 'somewhere in between a light shove and a hard shove.'

He confirmed that Austin's brother Hunter was at the bottom of the tent at the time of the incident and that no others ganged up on Anthony.

The witness called the ambulance shortly after the knifing. 911 audio was played to the court where he can be heard saying 'my friend's bleeding everywhere.'
