Political commentator Jack Posobiec has accused Prime Minister Keir Starmer of damaging UK-US relations before Donald Trump takes office.

Speaking on GBN America, Posobiec questioned Starmer's Cabinet appointments, particularly highlighting Foreign Secretary David Lammy's past criticism of the president-elect.

"I don't quite understand the strategy from Starmer and from the Labour Party to try and put the skids on this relationship as the president hasn't even begun yet," Posobiec said.

The comments come as Trump prepares to return to the White House following November's election victory.

These remarks are now under scrutiny as Lammy would be responsible for maintaining diplomatic relations with the Trump administration if the Republican wins.

The situation is complicated by Labour activists' previous support for Kamala Harris, which has reportedly caused friction with Trump's camp.

Posobiec emphasised Trump's strong personal connections to the United Kingdom.

"The UK is a country which the United States of America has a special relationship with," he told GBN America.

He highlighted Trump's fondness for the British Royal Family, including the late Queen Elizabeth and King Charles.

Posobiec noted Trump's Scottish heritage, pointing out that his mother was born in Scotland and immigrated to the United States.

The commentator also referenced Trump's business interests in the UK, specifically mentioning his Turnberry property in Scotland.

Lammy has been active in international diplomacy since taking office under Starmer's government.

Two months ago, he became the first British cabinet minister to visit China since Labour took power, meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

During the visit, he emphasised that "engagement with China is pragmatic and necessary to support UK and global interests."

More recently, Lammy has been strengthening ties with Australia, acknowledging the "deep" relationship between the two nations during meetings on defence and security policy.

His diplomatic role has also involved challenging Beijing on its support for Russia in the Ukraine war and addressing Hong Kong issues.
