Sir Keir Starmer has resigned as Prime Minister just two years after landslide election.
He announced his timetable of resignation outside Downing Street this morning.
The announcement makes Sir Keir the shortest serving Labour Prime Minister in history.
He said in front of the media this morning that "walking up" Downing Street two years ago was "the proudest moment" of his life.
Sir Keir said he will continue in the position "until a contest is complete", saying he will "do everything" to ensure a smooth handover of power.
His resignation timetable now officially paves the way for Andy Burnham to become the UK's seventh Prime Minister in a decade.
In the 2024 general election, Sir Keir led Labour to a victory landslide after 14 years of Conservative power.
Sir Keir said: "Six years ago I inherited a Labour Party that was politically, financially and morally bankrupt.
The outgoing Prime Minister said he will now focus on being the best husband and father he can be
"I was told time and time again that my party was finished. That we were consigned to history. That a majority at the general election let alone a landslide majority was impossible.
"But we proved those people wrong. Because we changed our party. Ripping out the poison of anti-Semitism, restoring trust on the economy, defence and national security and becoming a party that once again stood proudly with not against our national flag."
However, since his premiership the Prime Minister has been tainted by U-turns and scandals which has since seen his popularity dwindle.
