Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has accused the Conservative Party of running an "open borders experiment" after new figures revealed net migration to the UK hit a record 906,000 in the year to June 2023.
The figure represents nearly four times the migration levels compared to 2019, according to data from the Office for National Statistics.
Speaking at a Downing Street press conference, Starmer said the Conservative failure "happened by design, not accident" as "policies were reformed deliberately to liberalise immigration."
He accused the previous government of using Brexit to "turn Britain into a one nation experiment in open borders" under the banner of "Global Britain."
