Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul joined TikTok on Saturday to protest the app's impending ban.

Paul proceeded to post a singular video to his account, explaining why he had joined the app just as it is about to go offline.

"Why am I joining TikTok just as the government ban begins?" Paul said in the video. "Because I don't like being told what to do. I don't like being told what I can think or what I can say. The courts may think there's an exemption to the First Amendment. I don't. I joined TikTok today as a form of civil disobedience. To the 170 million Americans who use TikTok: Don't give up, don't give in. Resist."

This content is imported from TikTok. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site. Paul appeared and sounded angry as he gave the statement.

His account on the platform, @randpaul, had over 93,300 followers as of Saturday at 4:30 p.m. His account was also already seen to be verified in the short time that he had been on it, a designation that TikTok gives to the accounts of famous and notable people to avoid being confused with impostor accounts.

"I joined TikTok today as a form of civil disobedience."

You shouldn't have done that, Rand. The CCP just stole all your personal information and now your life is ruined and our national security has been ravaged.

You can’t separate Chinese apps from the Chinese government. China believes in total warfare and getting information from apps is all part of that.

The rage against TikTok young people use it to make money and in these tough economic times you take away a source of revenue for them.

Raging against Communist China after doing business with Communist China all these years.

I’ve always knew China was Communist but a whole slew of Republican Presidents (Nixon,Ford,Reagan,Bushes) did business with China making China what it is today.

If President Trump wants to keep TikTok up cut some deal etc. good for him.

We are not going to flock to Meta products. After all, back in 2020, you'll get suspended just for supporting Trump on Facebook.

The world is a big place. So we will just use apps that are not in the U.S.

A guy living in Kazakhstan can probably create a TikTok clone and we will eventually find that app.

So our government will have to ban that one as well.

So it'll be a game of whack-a-mole.

I guess even a working clock is wrong twice a day, too…
