CV NEWS FEED // Students at the public Western Kentucky University (WKU) woke up on March 11 to find the entire Gospel of John chalked out on the central walkway across campus.

According to the College Heights Herald, 65-70 college students spent the night before writing out the 879 verses of the Gospel in chalk across campus.

Baptist Campus Ministry (BCM) collaborated with two other student organizations, Campus Crusade for Christ and Hilltoppers for Christ, to lead the project.

BCM president Cameron Shaw told Fox News Digital in an article published March 23 that he got the idea from the social media trend called “Gospel Chalk Movement,” in which other Christian students have done the same on their campuses. Shaw told Fox that he hopes the movement will inspire a chain reaction at other colleges.

BCM Vice President Luke Alford told Fox about his desire to spread the Good News to the students at his campus.

“We live in a time when there is a lot of uncertainty and confusion in the world around us, especially in a college setting full of a bunch of people still figuring out how to be an adult,” Alford told Fox. “I firmly believe that the Bible has the answer to these questions, especially in the Gospel of John.”

Rachael Harwood, another student leader with BCM, explained that some university students reacted negatively to the biblical display on a college student social media app, Yik Yak. However, Harwood said she didn’t feel discouraged by their reactions. She told  Fox that exposing students to the Gospel’s message was the goal.

“Even though the responses were negative, students were still talking about the truths that are in the Bible,” she told Fox. “This is just as important as positive comments because it makes students think about where they stand when it comes to the most important decision in their lives.”

A number of students at other schools have also participated in the trend. Last year, 150 students at North Carolina State University also chalked the Gospel of John, testifying to the students on their campus.
