Kingdom Hearts 4 gets new gameplay during Nintendo Direct
The new footage showed Sora fighting through city streets, using his Keyblade to swing across buildings and battle enemies in large urban spaces. One scene also featured a massive dark creature looming over the city, while another showed Sora facing off against smaller Heartless in a busy intersection.
The trailer also included a new look at Strelitzia, who was previously shown in the original reveal trailer, as well as a scene featuring two hooded characters talking in the rain.
Kingdom Hearts 4 has been largely quiet since its first reveal, with Square Enix only releasing small development updates and screenshots in the years since. The biggest recent update came in 2025, when the team reassured fans that development was still moving forward after the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link.
Now, the sequel appears to be fully back in the spotlight as part of Nintendo’s Switch 2 lineup.
Square Enix has not yet announced a release date for Kingdom Hearts 4, but the Direct confirmed the game is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 alongside its previously expected launch on other platforms.
