Disney has announced that a Kingdom Hearts series is coming to Disney+ and Disney Channel at tonight’s D23 event showcasing upcoming projects across the company’s portfolio.
News on the show is scarce at this point, but it will apparently not follow Sora, Donald, and Goofy, and will instead tell a new story in the Kingdom Hearts universe. Series director Tetsuya Nomura will be involved, so expect the show to probably be canon and have major ramifications for the series moving forward.

But that’s not all Kingdom Hearts news that came from D23. Square Enix and Disney also confirmed that Kingdom Hearts IV will finally launch in late 2027. A new trailer for the game confirms that one of the Disney worlds featured in the game will be based on Coco, Pixar’s 2017 film inspired by the Day of the Dead. We also get a new look at Mickey, Donald, and Goofy, who are trying to find Sora after the events of Kingdom Hearts III led to his disappearance. Based on what we see here, it looks like Sora might be split from Donald and Goofy for some of the Disney worlds, as neither of them show up in any of the Coco world.
Fans can expect more Kingdom Hearts out of D23, as tomorrow there will be a separate panel focused solely on the series at 4:30 Pacific Time / 7:30 Eastern Time. Unlike tonight’s panel, it will be livestreamed on the official Kingdom Hearts YouTube channel.
