African Biochar Alliance Summit to advance Africa’s food security, green economy and climate-smart agriculture agenda
The African Biochar Alliance Summit will take place in Lusaka, Zambia, from 27–28 October 2026, bringing together leaders across agriculture, sustainability, finance, development, green economy, project implementation and climate-smart agriculture.
The Summit will place biochar at the centre of a wider conversation around soil health, food security, climate resilience, land restoration, circular economy development and sustainable rural livelihoods.
KPMG and South Pole have been confirmed as Strategic Partners, strengthening the Summit’s focus on credible project development, sustainability strategy, climate finance, governance, measurement, reporting and long-term implementation. Their involvement brings additional expertise in helping projects move from ambition to credible, measurable and investable impact.
The speaker programme will feature high-level voices from the green economy, agriculture, sustainability, finance, project development and climate sectors, including Dr. Douty Chibamba, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Green Economy & Environment, Zambia, as Keynote Speaker.
For delegates, the Summit offers a practical opportunity to understand Africa’s emerging biochar and climate-smart agriculture market, identify credible project opportunities, connect with implementation partners, and explore how soil restoration, circular biomass use and farmer-focused programmes can support ESG, food security, community impact and long-term sustainability goals.

The Summit comes at a critical time for African agriculture. Biochar offers one practical pathway. Produced from organic biomass such as agricultural waste, biochar can help improve soil structure, retain moisture, support nutrient efficiency, strengthen crop resilience and turn waste into value for farming communities.

The Summit will also connect to the wider African Biochar Alliance platform, which is being developed to support data-driven, farmer-focused projects across Africa. The Alliance aims to connect companies, funders, cooperatives, farming organisations, project developers and implementation partners around projects that restore soils, strengthen livelihoods and deliver measurable impact.
