Krispy Kreme is giving Pokemon fans a reason to dig through their closets, with free donuts available to customers wearing merch from the franchise.
On Saturday, August 22, fans who wear Pokemon attire to a participating Krispy Kreme shop can receive one free Original Glazed donut, with no other purchase necessary. The giveaway is limited to one per guest and is only available in stores or through the drive-thru.
So, be sure to dig through your closet for a Pikachu onesie, Jigglypuff hat or other merch to qualify for a free treat.
The one-day offer celebrates the launch of Krispy Kreme’s new Pokemon collection, created to mark the franchise’s 30th anniversary.
Krispy Kreme launches six Pokemon donuts
The Pokemon Doughnut Collection launches on August 18 and features six designs based on Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Jigglypuff and the iconic Poke Ball.
Each Pokemon has its own flavor. Pikachu comes with lemon-flavored Kreme, while Charmander is filled with chocolate and toasted marshmallow. Squirtle features cotton candy buttercreme, Jigglypuff has strawberry buttercreme and Bulbasaur is covered in vanilla icing.
Krispy Kreme is also selling Original Glazed Gold Dots in collectible Pokemon cups, along with themed dozen boxes.
“We had so much fun bringing the world of Pokemon to life through doughnuts in a way only Krispy Kreme can,” Chief Brand and Product Officer Alison Holder said.
Krispy Kreme has even allowed customers to preorder the collection before launch, giving fans a chance to secure their dozen before heading to stores.
Given how popular this collection is proving, it’s unclear if there will even be any Pokemon donuts left by the time this giveaway kicks off for anyone wearing Pokemon-themed clothes.
Pokemon collaborations have repeatedly attracted scalpers. McDonald’s Japan recently introduced purchase limits for its latest Pokemon Happy Meal, while Target reportedly ordered employees to stop cutting open sealed Pokemon card products over concerns about legal risk.
