Landman star Michelle Randolph has defended the controversial strip club scene in the Paramount Plus show's season finale – stressing that it's a 'really special storyline.'
The Billy Bob Thornton drama came to an end on Sunday night, with many viewers left aghast after Angela (Ali Larter) took a group of seniors to the adult entertainment establishment and had her daughter Ainsley's (Randoph) high school quarterback boyfriend Ryder (Mitchell Slaggert) dance in a jock strap.
Although some fans found the humor in the scene, many others were 'disgusted' and found it to be 'unnecessary.'
Addressing the divisive moment in a new interview, Michelle said: 'I just wasn't expecting it at all, but it's a really special storyline.
'I think it just gave them a purpose in Midland and shows that there's more to them than what the audience initially thinks.
'I love that Angela is so obsessed with her old folks. It's her passion now.'

A group of senior citizens were taken to a strip club in the show's season one finale
Speaking to Deadline, she continued: 'And you know what? Taylor [Sheridan]'s wife volunteers at the old folks' home where we actually shot. I went with her and played some games.
'That was cool to experience before filming those scenes.'
The trip to the strip club in the finale wasn't completely out of place given that one of the senior ladies, Ethel (Louanne Stephens) admitted to Angela earlier in the season that she just wanted some 'd**k in my face' one last time.
So naturally, Angela hoped to facilitate that dream with the X-rated day out.
At the club, the older men were all having a blast, but Ethel was disheartened by all the young women around her.
It wasn't long, however, until her spirits were lifted when Ryder jumped out and put on a show for her.
By the end of it, Angela commented that Ryder was a 'keeper' for doing all this just for Ainsley.
Viewers at home sure had a lot to say about the scene, with one writing on X: 'This strip club scene was so unnecessary.'

He stripped off for the X-rated scene, which left some fans shocked
'Totally out of plot ideas so Sheridan resorts to strip club lows for seniors, underage teen sex and another beat down,' another said.
Others were amused by the storyline, with one enthusing: 'Strip club scene in the season finale of #Landman… all the Emmy's.'
Another penned: 'The scene at the 'strip club' had me dying.'
Landman fans are currently waiting for news on whether the show, created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, will be returning for another season.
