Legendary editor Jane Pratt was seen ducking out of an East Village photography exhibition in tears on Friday night — and Page Six hears her dramatic exit turns out to be the result of a brutal injury.
The Sassy and Jane founder was at the opening of the “Being Good is Golden” show curated by artist David Belisle on 6th Street, when she suddenly seemed to become overwhelmed and headed for the exit.
Onlookers saw her being comforted outside on the sidewalk by lifelong pal, R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe and actor Benn Northover.
Now we hear that the XOJane alum was forced to leave because she was suffering the after-effects of a nasty accident.
Apparently, a couple of weeks back, Pratt had been walking near her Chelsea home while typing an email on her phone, and tripped on a low bench.
She suffered a gash on her leg that later required 19 stitches, and broke her sternum (otherwise known as the breastbone), and she ended up at the ER.
Apparently the scene at the gallery — where we’re told star photographers Ryan McGinley and Sylvia Plachy were checking out portraits of Patti Smith, Sinead O’Connor and more — was caused because Pratt had been getting hugs from friends, and it had damaged her healing chest. (The show is opening soon in Atlanta).
It seems that the intrepid editor of new newsletter Another Jane Pratt Thing may have hit the party scene a little too soon after the injury.
As we’ve previously reported, Pratt — who Nylon recently dubbed “media’s patron saint of teenage girls” –signed a deal with Random House to pen a memoir, “It Happened To Me.”
