Will Enzo Maresca get one over his former side in Saturday’s Premier League clash? We look ahead to Leicester City vs Chelsea with our prediction and preview.
Leicester City vs Chelsea: The Key Insights
- The Opta supercomputer has backed Chelsea to win in a convincing 59.5% of pre-match simulations.
- Cole Palmer has been directly involved in 10 goals in just five Premier League appearances against promoted sides for Chelsea.
- Chelsea have lost just one of their last seven top-flight away games against Leicester City.
Enzo Maresca returns to the King Power Stadium to face his former employers for the first time on Saturday as Chelsea prepare to visit Leicester City.
The Italian guided Leicester back to the Premier League at the first time of asking last season before trading the Championship winners for Chelsea in the summer.
The London side are winless in their last two matches after back-to-back 1-1 draws with Manchester United and Arsenal, but still sit third in the table. Pedro Neto cancelled out Gabriel Martinelli’s opener in their clash with Mikel Arteta’s side at Stamford Bridge last time out.
Those draws have seen Cole Palmer kept quiet, too. However, the former Manchester City man has been directly involved in 10 goals in just five Premier League appearances against promoted sides for Chelsea (six goals, four assists).
That impressive record means he has tallied a goal or assist every 43 minutes in such matches on average, and Palmer will be keen to add to that run here, aided by fellow attacker Noni Madueke. The pair have created more chances for each other than any other duo in the Premier League this season (17).
Leicester have a somewhat unexpected midfield maestro of their own, though. Wilfred Ndidi has had more touches in the opposition box (33) and provided more assists (4) in the Premier League than any other Leicester player in 2024-25. Ndidi’s four assists have come from just nine chances created, though, suggesting it owes plenty to excellent finishing from his teammates.
Steve Cooper’s men will have their work cut out as Leicester are winless in their last 13 Premier League games against sides starting the day in the top four of the table (D3 L10). They’ve conceded 35 goals in those 13 matches, an average of 2.7 per game, since a 1-0 win against Liverpool in December 2021.
There may be an opportunity for the Foxes, though, as Chelsea have recently struggled immediately following an international break, winning just one of their last seven such games (D3 L3). That came against Bournemouth earlier this season, however, when Christopher Nkunku snatched a 1-0 win on the south coast.
Maresca may not be too concerned by that record, though. His side have claimed 10 of their 19 points this season in away games (53%) and are one of only four sides to earn more than 50% of their tally on the road.
In terms of the visitors’ team news, Chelsea will run the rule over the fitness of Jadon Sancho and Roméo Lavia. Malo Gusto, former Leicester man Wesley Fofana and youngster Omari Kellyman are out injured.
Leicester, meanwhile, will be without key winger Abdul Fatawu – who is likely to miss the rest of the season after sustaining an ACL injury on international duty – as well as Jordan Ayew and Ricardo Pereira. Jamie Vardy, Patson Daka, Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Jakub Stolarczyk will all face late fitness tests.

The Blues were also 4-2 victors in the FA Cup against Leicester last season, with Marc Cucurella, Palmer, Carney Chukwuemeka and Madueke all on target at Stamford Bridge.
