TURIN, Italy (LifeSiteNews) — One of Italy’s most prominent LGBT lobby groups promoted polyamory during a Turin “Pride” event last week, featuring films that attempt to normalize multi-partner relationships and discussions on integrating polyamorous lifestyles into Catholic life.

On June 3, LGBT activist group “La Tenda di Gionata” – which describes itself as Catholic – supported an event held as part of Turin Pride 2026, where participants watched films focused on “polyamorous relationships.” Promotional material for the event invited attendees to a screening organized by a group named “Polifamiglie,” or “Poly-family.”

One of the films presented was “Il sesso degli angeli” (“The Sex of Angels”) by Spanish director Xavier Villaverde, a production that – according to a report by La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana – received two awards at the Malaga Film Festival. The program also included the short film “Il poliamore spiegato alle madri e alle nonne” (“Polyamory Explained to Mothers and Grandmothers”) by Spanish filmmaker Roberto Pérez Toledo, known for having produced numerous LGBT-themed short films.

According to the association’s presentation page, “Polifamiglie” is an organization founded by individuals who view polyamory as “a legitimate and valuable form of family.” The group states that it seeks to become a national “point of reference” for so-called polyamorous families in Italy by providing “support, resources and opportunities” to share experiences.

The organization also says that some of its members are raising children “within the Christian tradition” and took part in the controversial LGBT Jubilee, organized by La Tenda di Gionata, on September 6, 2025.

La Tenda di Gionata also states on its website that “here the Church can help. There are polyamorous believers who are not looking for throwaway experiences.… They pray, they take part in ecclesial life, they want to understand how to live [polyamory] without separating affection, conscience, and faith.”

The group presented the short film shown in Turin as a story centered on what it described as “ordinary family interactions” rather than on sexuality. The association also argued that discussion of polyamory is often dominated by specialized terminology relating to non-monogamous relationships. According to statements linked to the event, some advocates believe greater attention should be given to the “moral, human and spiritual dimensions of the subject.”

La Tenda di Gionata has for years been one of Italy’s most visible LGBT lobby groups, promoting ways to normalize LGBT lifestyles in the Catholic Church and to reform Catholic traditional moral doctrine on homosexuality and related topics. The June 3 event at Turin Pride 2026 formed part of this broader activity.

However, according to Catholic doctrine, so-called polyamory is morally illicit, because it contradicts the essential nature of marriage and human love as understood in Sacred Scripture and natural law. According to the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, marriage is a covenant between one man and one woman, ordered toward mutual fidelity and the generation of life. Love, in this view, is exclusive, total, and faithful – not divisible among multiple partners.

From a Catholic theological perspective, polyamory undermines the unity and permanence that define the marital bond. While the Church urges compassion and pastoral care for all people, it does endorse or bless relationships that contradict the natural moral order and the sacramental meaning of marriage.
