GB News host Miriam Cates has declared "liberalism is over" following Donald Trump's inauguration as the 47th President of the United States yesterday.

Speaking about the moment that Trump took the oath of office in the Capitol Rotunda, Cates insisted "Trumpism is here to stay" despite critics questioning the new President's policy commitments.

Donald Trump, 78, became only the second US president to serve non-consecutive terms, following his defeat of Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.

Trump promised a "revolution of common sense" in his inaugural address, declaring "the golden age of America begins right now."

He added: "He talks about the idea of getting rid of 11 million undocumented migrants in America which is very popular but absolutely catastrophic for economic growth. These are people who pay £75 billion in taxes every year."

Miriam Cates responded: "Isn't this exactly what Trumpism is about? And yes, Trump himself is a one off.

"I think Trumpism is here to stay, You've obviously got the heir to that in JD Vance, who most likely will be their nominee at the next election.

"But isn't this just a sign that liberalism is over? It's back to actually feeling that we can put our nation first.

"Actually, security comes before this mysterious figure of GDP, which doesn't help anybody. This is a sign that times have changed in the world."

Trump pledged to implement new tariffs on Canadian, Mexican and Chinese exports to the United States.

He promised to "act with historic speed and strength and fix every single crisis facing our country".

Yesterday, he signed off a record number of executive orders at the Capitol as well as in front of thousands of his supporters in the Capital One Arena later on in the evening.

He declared illegal immigration a national emergency as he explained that he would deploy US military troops to support immigration agencies and restrict the number of those seeking refuge and asylum.

Criminal cartels have now been designated as terrorist organisations, as he announced: “International cartels constitute a national-security threat beyond that posed by traditional organised crime.”
