Lindsay Clancy wails as jury is shown graphic autopsy photos of her dead children: Live updates

Dr Springer is looking at the autopsy photos from Callan’s autopsy and describing what she noted.

She said there are abrasions on his neck and hemorrhages on the face and under the skin.

The jury is being shown the images but the public gallery cannot see them.

Clancy is now sobbing loudly and uncontrollably at the defense table. She is making gasping, gulping sounds and her whole body is shaking.

Stephanie Williams was Cora’s pre-K teacher at Learning Sprouts daycare. Cora was then in her classroom on the afternoons from September 2022 to January 2023.

'S\he was a sweet little girl. She loved her brothers,’ she testified.

‘She would pretend to be Princess Sofia,’ the teacher testified, smiling.

Clancy scrunched up her face with emotion as she said that, appearing to struggle to contain her emotions.

Bertolo also testified about one day when Cora told her that she was ‘missing her mom.’

At that time, Clancy was in hospital.

She had voluntarily admitted herself for five days from New Year’s 2022 due to her mental health struggles.

Cora’s preschool teacher teared up as she recalled the last day she saw Cora.

On the morning of January 23, 2023, Cora was dropped off at preschool.

That day, she needed to use the bathroom more than normal, Bertolo said.

When she told Clancy at pickup, she said she had a doctor's appointment for Cora the next day.

Susan Bertolo also worked at Learning Sprouts preschool that Cora and Dawson attended.

She looked after the ‘Sunflower’ room - which Cora attended three days a week in the mornings.

Both Lindsay and Patrick Clancy dropped off Cora. She recalls seeing Patrick more but she shared the dropoff with the other preschool teacher.

Bertolo teared up as she described Cora as an ‘amazing’ and ‘wonderful’ preschool student who she was ready to go into kindergarten.

She worked at Learning Sprouts, the preschool daycare that Cora and Dawson attended.

Dawson started at the school in September 2022 and was in her class. She then went on maternity leave that November.

Around October, Dawson began struggling more with dropoffs at the preschool, she said.

During all her interactions with Clancy and the children, she didn’t notice anything concerning she said.

Under cross-examination from Clancy’s defense attorney Kevin Reddington, the pediatrician confirmed that the children always seemed healthy and happy.

During all her interactions with the family, she agreed that Clancy appeared to be a doting and concerned mother to her children. ‘I always thought she was a good mom,’ she testified.

The pediatrician also admitted that she did not know about Clancy’s mental health struggles.

She did not know that Clancy was seeing a psychiatrist for months, was on several psychiatric medications, that she had contacted a suicide helpline, and that she was voluntarily admitted to hospital a few weeks before the killings.

As a pediatrician, she was also trained to spot postpartum issues in the mother.

Typically, this meant looking out for signs such as the mother having a flat affect, being tearful, avoiding eye contact or having trouble bonding with her baby.

She told the court that she did not note any of these signs in Clancy and did not see a need to refer her for postpartum support.

On January 24, 2023 - the day of the killings - Clancy brought Cora in for her annual checkup. Again that day, she said she saw no signs that Clancy was suffering from postpartum. She had no trouble answering questions or understanding her, had no visible tears and did not have a flat affect, she testified.

The second witness on the stand today is pediatrician Dr Lindsay Rosshirt. Back in January 2023, she was working at South Shore Hospital and was the Clancy family’s pediatrician.

Cora, Dawson and Callan’s pediatric medical records have been entered as evidence.

Aside from Cora having asthma, she testified that all three were typical healthy children.

After around a 30-minute recess, the court is back in session.

Lindsay Clancy is sitting back at the defense table, this time wearing glasses. She appears to be calmer now.

After Dr Springer's testimony, Judge William Sullivan called a brief recess.

Clancy was taken out of court in her wheelchair, loudly sobbing and making guttural wails.

The medical examiner confirmed that Callan’s official cause of death was complications of mechanical asphyxia.

This is because he was resuscitated after being strangled and had a heartbeat. Callan was pronounced dead three days later on January 27, 2023.
