London's streets could look radically different within a few years as the capital's iconic black cabs are set to receive an overhaul for the first time in almost a decade.
London EV Company (LEVC) has confirmed that its next-generation black cab will launch on the UK market in the second half of next year.
This will be the first redesign of the iconic black cab since 2018, when the first purpose-built, zero-exhaust-emission TX was launched.
When it hits the market next year, the unnamed new model will meet the Metropolitan Conditions of Fitness, as laid out by Transport for London.
While a full unveiling of the new model has not yet been shown, early design sketches have been released, showing an evolution of the iconic silhouette.
LEVC said it was developing its latest model to focus on the needs of drivers, passengers, fleet operators and cities.
The recognisable LEVC TX has sold more than 12,000 models around the world in just eight years, and has become a mainstay across the capital over the last decade.
The range-extended electric taxi's eCity powertrain has prevented more than 450 million kilograms of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.

It has also had a huge impact on the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions of London's taxi fleet, reducing them by a staggering 60 per cent.
Tony Chi, chief executive officer at LEVC, described today's announcement as an "important milestone" for the company.
He said: "For more than a century, LEVC has been at the heart of urban mobility, and the black cab remains one of the most trusted and recognisable transport solutions in the world.
"Our next-generation taxi will honour everything drivers and passengers value about the current TX, while taking a significant step forward in design, innovation and sustainability."

Mr Chi acknowledged the importance of the black cab, reiterating that LEVC was fully committed to the future of the taxi industry.

LEVC's parent company, China's Geely Group, has invested more than £1billion into developing the brand and has supported the UK's taxi industry since 2013.
Geely Group, which also owns the likes of Volvo, Polestar and Lotus, said the investment was underpinned by a "stable regulatory environment" that highlighted the importance of London's black cabs.

Full specifications of the new model remain unknown, although LEVC has confirmed that its final TX model will be produced this month at the brand's Ansty production facility.
The factory will then be prepared to produce the new purpose-built taxi, as LEVC reassured TX owners that its aftermarket and aftersales operations will continue.
Brett Boydell, global design director at LEVC, said: "Designing the next generation of iconic black cab is both an incredible responsibility and a unique opportunity.
"These first sketches capture the essence of what's to come - familiar, purposeful and unmistakably LEVC - but with a fresh, modern character that reflects the future of mobility. There is much more to reveal, but this is the beginning of that journey."
