Los Angeles archdiocese announces ways to help fire victims

CV NEWS FEED // In response to the ongoing wind-driven fires affecting Southern California, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles has outlined several ways for individuals to aid those who have lost their homes, schools, and livelihoods.

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has created a donation portal to help parishes, schools, and neighborhoods most severely hit by the fires. Catholic Charities is also accepting donations to provide critical support for families in need, with details available at catholiccharitiesusa.org.

Local schools are also joining the effort. Loyola High School has opened its Caruso Hall to offer essential services, including food and showers, and is welcoming donations of non-perishable items, clothing, hygiene products, and blankets at 1901 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, California.

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy in Downey will conduct a donation drive Jan. 10 and 11, requesting supplies such as snacks, bottled water, soap, and flashlights. Donors can enter through the football stadium parking lot at 7851 Gardendale St., Downey, California.

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Los Angeles (SVDPLA) is gathering food, clothing, and hygiene kits for distribution. 

American Martyrs School in Manhattan Beach is accepting toiletries, new undergarments, snacks, and bottled water at its location, 1701 Laurel Ave. 

St. Andrew School in Pasadena will be open Jan. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to provide food and clothing, with breakfast pastries and coffee available in the morning.

Mayfield Senior School will be collecting donations Jan. 11 from noon to 3 p.m. and Jan. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a detailed list of needed items available on their Instagram page.

All Souls Church in Alhambra is collecting gift cards, clothing, and school supplies, while Ramona Convent Secondary School will hold a donation drive Jan. 10.

St. Philip the Apostle Church is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for evacuees, offering refreshments and support at 151 S. Hill Ave., Pasadena, California.

Additionally, the Red Cross is providing evacuation shelters and accepting donations (redcross.org/local/california/los-angeles.html). The California Fire Foundation and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation are also seeking support to aid affected residents and equip firefighters. Donations can be made here.
