California Senator Adam Schiff just got called out for making up a blatant lie about Elon Musk. The widely disliked Schiff tried to paint DOGE as a way for Elon Musk to peer into the private information of American citizens. However, Schiff’s low-effort lie failed to gain traction, and he was slammed by online comments exposing his dishonesty.
For context, Adam Schiff infamously led the prosecution against President Trump in his first impeachment trial when the House of Representatives charged him with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Now that Trump is back in power, there have been calls to investigate Schiff to determine if he violated the law. The senator has been unconvincingly Shifting attention away from his guilty conscience and toward Elon Musk.
On February 17, 2025, Adam Schiff took to X to make his ill-intentioned post. He said, “Elon Musk is trying to access your personal bank and tax data. The world’s richest man should not and cannot be able to snoop around your personal finances. Period. End of story.” Almost immediately, Schiff was blasted by comments calling him to task.
Some of the replies speculated why Schiff was so eager to shift the attention to Musk. One said, “That’s because Schiff is a lying, corrupt thief, and he knows he’s about to get caught.” Another noted the repetitive nature of Schiff’s attacks on Musk, “This isn’t working any better than when you said it three or four days ago. Do you really want me to believe that Elon Musk is running out of there with my bank account number on a thumb drive? This nonsense may work on Democrats, but MAGA will never fall for it.”
Other users found the premise of his argument that DOGE was “snooping around” in personal details to be laughable. One said, “If you honestly think Elon is running around and putting American’s bank account and personal information on a thumb drive so he can use it later, I’ve got some oceanfront property in Idaho to sell you.” A similar post read, “Idiot. He doesn’t need my personal bank information. He doesn’t need to open a credit card on my Social Security number. He doesn’t need a loan from a bank on my Social Security number. He wants to know how you guys in Congress became rich from all your kickbacks.”
Some users noticed that Democrats are only worried about privacy when they feel they might be exposed. A reply read, ” Musk has been a champion of free speech and transparency, and his efforts to promote accountability in government are commendable. It’s ironic that you’re suddenly concerned about privacy when your party has consistently pushed for greater government control over citizens’ lives.”
A few replied that they wondered if Adam Schiff understood how the tax system works, as many federal agencies use ‘personal tax data.’ A comment noted, “But, but, but, how does your tax system work, sir? Do you believe people based on their beautiful brown eye? Is it a voluntary thing? What are the consequences if not paid? Is it a the peasants need to pay but I don’t thing”

Some comments pointed out that Schiff and the Democrats are much too corrupt to be considered honest sources. One account noted, “That’s rich coming from you, Adam, considering the Democrats’ history of using government agencies to spy on citizens and silence dissenting voices. What’s to stop the government from abusing its power if Musk is stopped?”
