Drivers are being warned of long delays on the M1 this morning following a serious lorry crash, prompting rush hour chaos.
The M1 in Leicestershire is closed southbound between J23a (East Midlands Airport) and J23 and northbound between J23a and J24 (Kegworth).
This follows a collision involving an overturned lorry, which came to rest on top of the central reservation barrier.
Emergency services are in attendance at the site of the accident, including Leicestershire Police.
Traffic officers from National Highways, in addition to other contractors, are also providing assistance with traffic management.
The transport organisation warned that a complex recovery operation was ongoing and would remain throughout the morning.
It warned that there are currently delays of 60 minutes on M1 south, 40 minutes on M1 north and 60 minutes on the A42 north on approach to the M1.
A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: "A single-vehicle collision involving an HGV was reported at 4.45am.

"No serious injuries have been reported and no one has been arrested."
National Highways encouraged motorists to expect disruption and allow extra time for their journeys.
It also outlined a diversion route for motorists stuck behind the road closure on the M1 travelling northbound or southbound.

Road users travelling southbound should follow the route marked with the hollow diamond symbol:
- Exit the M1 southbound at J23a and take the free-flow slip road onto the A42 southbound
- Continue along the A42 for 8.7 miles until J13 at Ashby-de-la-Zouch
- Exit the A42 and, at the interchange, take the 1st left onto the A512
- Continue westbound on the A512 for eight miles through Ashby Road West, Charnwood Road, Ashby Road East, Ingleberry Road and Leicester Road junction in Shepshed
- Re-join the M1 southbound at J23

Road users travelling northbound should follow the route marked with the solid square symbol:
- Exit the M1 northbound at Junction 23a
- Take the slip road onto the A42
- At Finger Farm Roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the A453 southbound
- Continue southbound on the A453 to the A453/A50/M1 J24 interchange
- Rejoin the M1 northbound carriageway at J24
