M25 traffic: Drivers face miles of congestion as air ambulance lands on busy motorway

This follows the recovery of a broken-down HGV following an accident, with National Highways warning of 70 minutes of delays.

An update from traffic monitoring site Inrix states that long delays were still to be expected between J9 A243 (Leatherhead) and J10 A3 (Wisley).

It stated that an air ambulance had landed on the motorway to attend an accident on the opposite side, with "severe delays" being reported.

The accident was first reported at around 2pm, while the broken-down lorry had led to further delays on the opposite carriageway.

Posting on social media, National Highways stated: "Lanes 3 & 4 (of 4) are closed on M25 clockwise near Leatherhead between J9 & J10 for the recovery of a broken-down HGV.

"Traffic Officers implemented emergency traffic management to support recovery operation.

Congestion remains on the M25, with traffic on the approach to J9 expected to remain until J8 for Reigate.

Traffic cameras show long queues of motorists between J9 and J10 as motorists attempt to pass through the congestion before rush hour.

A separate incident has taken place on the M26 eastbound between the M25/A21 and J2A following a multi-vehicle collision.

The South East branch of National Highways outlined that emergency services are en route to the accident.

Lane 2 (of two) is closed, while traffic officers have implemented emergency traffic management measures.

Posting on social media, National Highways outlined that there were current delays of 60 minutes and five miles of congestion on the approach.
