Drivers are being warned of long delays on a crucial motorway route in Greater Manchester as police forces continue investigations.

The M67 in Greater Manchester is closed in both directions between J3 (Hyde) and J4 (Hattersley) due to a Greater Manchester Police-led incident.

National Highways reported that the GMP was continuing to carry out detailed investigations at the scene to establish the circumstances.

The transport organisation said it was supporting this work by maintaining the traffic management.

It warned that the time required to complete the traffic management can depend on the complexity of the investigation.

Posting on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, National Highways: North-West reported that the motorway remained closed in both directions.

It added: "Due to the nature of the incident, the road is likely to remain closed throughout the day."

At present, the North-West division of National Highways states that there are less than 10 minutes of delays in both directions.
