PETALING JAYA - A popular Malaysian coffee chain has apologised for announcing a 10-15 per cent service charge hike during the upcoming Chinese New Year festive period.

Oriental Kopi, who had made the initial announcement on Jan 20, has now scrapped the move.

“We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused over the past few days. During this Chinese New Year, our service charges will remain unchanged, and no adjustments will be made.

“We are committed to providing you and your family and friends with the best dining experience during the festive season,” the company said on Facebook on Jan 22.

The initial hike announcement had received widespread criticism, which led to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry advising the public to lodge complaints if there were restaurants that hiked prices during festive periods.

Oriental Kopi is set to debut on the Ace Market of Bursa Malaysia on Jan 23. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
