PUTRAJAYA – Malaysia’s 2026 National Day Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s Address, scheduled for Aug 30 at 9.30pm, has been moved from Dataran Merdeka to the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) due to haze, says the country’s Communications Ministry.
The ministry said the decision was made as an adaptive measure in view of current conditions, particularly to ensure the safety, health and comfort of guests and the public, as well as the smooth running of the event.
“The relocation will not affect the programme or spirit of the 2026 National Day celebrations, but is instead a responsible measure to ensure the event is held in a more controlled and comfortable environment,” it said in a statement on Aug 27.
The statement said the Federal Government will continue to monitor the haze situation and air quality from time to time.
Meanwhile, a decision on whether the National Day 2026 parade will proceed will be made based on the prevailing situation, as well as assessments and advice from the Health Ministry, Environment Department and Malaysian Meteorological Department.
The Malaysian public is also advised to remain alert to the latest developments concerning the haze and obtain health information and advice through official channels. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
