Manchester City’s winless run stretched to six matches after throwing away a three-goal lead on Tuesday. Look back on a thriller with the best facts and Opta data in our Man City vs Feyenoord stats page.
Manchester City plumbed new depths as their dismal run of form continued by throwing away a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 at home to Feyenoord in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Pep Guardiola’s men had lost five in a row in all competitions prior to this game, the kind of run they’d not experienced in over 18 years.
For a time it looked like City were bouncing back in pretty straightforward fashion, but they capitulated in spectacular fashion in the final 15 minutes.
Erling Haaland put City ahead from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time, breaking the record for the fewest games (44) needed to reach 50 Champions League goal involvements in the process.
He then scored a classic poacher’s finish early in the second half to turn in Matheus Nunes’ pinpoint pass after Ilkay Gündoğan’s deflected strike had made it 2-0.
But City fell apart.
Anis Hadj Moussa got Feyenoord in it with 15 minutes left as he rounded Ederson after pouncing on a Josko Gvardiol error, before Santiago Giménez nudged over the line from close range to usher in a tense finish.
Feyenoord then capitalised on wild goalkeeping by Ederson to equalise. The Brazilian came way out of his goal and missed the ball, with David Hancko subsequently heading in from Igor Paixão’s cross.
It means City became only the third English side ever to fail to win a UEFA Champions League game in which they held a 3+ goal lead, after Arsenal v Anderlecht in November 2014 (3-3) and Liverpool v Sevilla in November 2017 (3-3).
The questions continue to mount for Guardiola, with City enduring a slump not seen at the Etihad Stadium in a long, long time.
