Man Lays In Pool Of Blood Outside Police Station In Capital City Pope Visiting

A man was brutally shot and killed Wednesday morning outside a police station in Barcelona, Spain, the same day Pope Leo XIV visited the capital city.

Police said the killer shot the victim in the back of the head outside at 8:50 a.m local time in Barcelona’s affluent “Hollywood Hills” suburb, The Telegraph reported. A witness reportedly said the killer had stalked the victim before shooting him outside a police station that processes national IDs and then fled the scene. An extremely graphic image of the victim lying in a pool of blood was posted on X after the shooting. A separate image of the victim was posted by the news outlet Europa.com.

The victim has yet to be identified, and authorities have not established any motivation behind the crime, which marks the second shooting in Barcelona in three days. Police have ruled out a connection to Pope Leo’s visit. A manhunt is underway.

An estimated 6,000 police officers were deployed to secure parts of the city as Pope Leo XIV made his way to the Sagrada Família, a sacred Barcelona basilica where he held mass Wednesday.

Barcelona is the capital city of Catalonia, an autonomous community in Spain.
