Marvel Rivals has proven to be a huge success among PlayStation, Xbox, and PC fans — and now DS players, too?
It’s been 14 years since the Nintendo 3DS was released, and it’s safe to say it was extremely popular back in its time, revolutionizing the ability to switch between 2D and 3D (even if the latter always gave you a headache). However, given we now have the Switch and the upcoming Switch 2, it’s no surprise that the 3DS has been forgotten about.
That is, unless you get the itch to play Marvel Rivals, which, if you do a little porting and technical work, can actually run on the Nintendo 3DS, with just one major problem.
Player manages to make Marvel Rivals run on Nintendo 3DS
Sharing their achievement on the Marvel Rivals Reddit, player Akirotan revealed that he managed to port Marvel Rivals over to the 3DS, showcasing in-match gameplay and how the controls work during the battle.
The only issue they encountered was the inability to aim, meaning only players who main locking heroes will thrive on this odd platform choice. Naturally, the game will also not run at 30fps, with the player joking that it runs at half 0.3fps.
Technically, the player is using a software called Moonlight remote play, which allows you to stream a game from your PC. Nevertheless, as seen in their video, the controls, movement, and gameplay all occur on the 3DS.
Regardless, fans were incredibly impressed that the 14-year-old machine could handle such a modern game, especially one as demanding and fast-paced as Marvel Rivals.
“1 strange portal and that thing is going boom,” joked one player, while another joked that this is what it would look like “if Marvel Rivals was released in 2011 instead of 2024.”
Of course, you’re unlikely to win any matches with such a low framerate and inability to aim, but it just goes to show, the Nintendo 3DS may not be as forgotten as many modern gamers may assume, especially when it comes to Marvel Rivals.
