Get your popcorn ready for this one, folks!
While speaking in an NCAA Tournament media availability session Thursday, Maryland basketball head coach Kevin Willard decided to talk about the rumors revolving around him, the Villanova Wildcats and their open coaching position, and Terrapins athletic director Damon Evans.
It’s rumored that Willard is a high-tier candidate for the Villanova job, while Evans looks to be headed to SMU for their AD position. (RELATED: Steven Ashworth’s Infant Baby Is Adorably Stealing March Madness Headlines)
Causing quite the stir, Willard took his opportunity at the podium to absolutely blast Evans, dishing out some of what insiders have been reporting on in regards to the tension between Willard and Evans. And Willard’s top complaint appears to be Evans’ unwillingness to invest money into Maryland‘s basketball program.
“You know, I wanted to spend an extra night in New York this year to celebrate Christmas with my team, and I was told that we can’t do that because it’s too expensive,” said Willard. “So I don’t know how we can be a top-tier program, and I can’t spend one extra night in New York because it’s too expensive. So there’s fundamental things I’m fighting for, for my team and my program.”
More from the Willard press conference:
“I don’t know how we can be a top tier program, and I can’t spend one extra night in New York because it’s too expensive.”
“I’m confident that no matter who we’re negotiating with … this program is going to be in a great spot.” https://t.co/WlYVwnjozP
