Rosa Salazar has been cast in a leading role opposite Matthew Gray Gubler in the CBS pilot “Einstein,” Variety has learned.
The project is described as a drama with comedic undertones. It was picked up to pilot at CBS back in August, with Gubler’s casting as Lew Einstein announced in early October. It is an adaptation of the German series of the same name
The official logline states, “Brilliant but directionless, the great grandson of Albert Einstein (Gubler) spends his days as a comfortably tenured professor until his bad boy antics land him in trouble with the law and he is pressed into service helping a local police detective (Salazar) solve her most puzzling cases.”
Salazar’s character is named Maddie Paris, who is described as “a Detective Inspector for the New Jersey State Police, who went into law enforcement after the death of her husband. Sharp and disciplined, Maddie demands a lot from her colleagues and even more from herself and feels conflicted about working with Professor Einstein.”
Salazar is set to appear in the upcoming Marvel film “Captain America: Brave New World” in the role of Rachel Leighton, a.k.a Diamondback, with the film set to debut in February. She is also known for her roles in films like “Alita: Battle Angel,” the “Maze Runner” franchise, “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On,” and “Bird Box.” She is set to star opposite Mark Wahlberg and LaKeith Stanfield in the Amazon MGM feature “Play Dirty” as well. In television, Salazar is known for her roles in shows like “Parenthood,” “Undone,” and “Brand New Cherry Flavor,” also serving as a producer on “Undone” and co-producer on “Brand New Cherry Flavor.”
She is repped by IAG, Jackoway Austen Tyerman, and Align PR.
Andy Breckman is writing and executive producing the pilot, with Randy Zisk directing and executive producing. Tariq Jalil also executive produces along with Rose Hughes, Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia and Laura Beetz of Seven One Studios International. Gubler is also a producer in addition to starring. CBS Studios will produce.
