The Pacific Palisades house that 65-year old local resident John Carr lives in is one of just a handful of properties that's still standing, after the Palisades wildfire ripped through the neighborhood this week, leaving the community virtually unrecognizable.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Glad this worked out for him but at least one other homeowner died with garden hose in hand attempting to do this in Altadena.

Life is largely a total crap-shoot.
Sometimes way more than other times.
I’m gonna be working on fire proofing my house and garage this Spring.
I live part way up a 45 deg, hill in a Pine Forest. No shortage of action to take.

Metal or ceramic/ceramic coated roof will go a LONG way.

His reasons for sticking it out were logical. And he saved the homes of two neighbors. For him, the risk was worth it.

I used to live in the Cumberland Plateau in just such an environment. Rural means volunteer fire department. But was younger back then. Dunno 'bout now.

My garage is good with cement/concrete tiles/shingles, but the previous owner replaced those on the house with asphalt.
Retarded he was...

at the end of the video he says he saved two neighbor homes as well as his own. Also says there were 0 firetrucks, believes it wouldn’t have taken much to save many homes

Garden hoses won’t do it. A swimming pool and a pump system powered by gas would save the home. But then wha do I know?

I saw pictures of houses that got burned that were oceanfront. The homes were owned by multimillionaires and at least one billionaire.
Had I owned such a property as that I would have commercial duty water pumps with 6 inch hoses that I could submerse in the ocean. "Water cannon" kind of setup.

“Rural means volunteer fire department”
That’s what we got, but we do have fire hydrants, but with a limited reservoir supply on somewhat higher ground.
I’m thinking I need an above ground pool with a pump and high flow sprinklers along with sealing the house totally off from any openings..

It looked like he used a garden hose.

“A swimming pool and a pump system powered by gas would save the home...”
Some fam in LA did that successfully. [They may have had access to two pools.]
I’ll have to go back to try to find the Vid.

I dunno. Now they can hire the best contractors and architects to build something better to their own tastes. They can afford it. I’m sure they’ll buy the pumps for their new homes. They’ll even install a dock and a rock-like pier to cover the 6” metal hoses. they only need to live to see the finished product.
