Adam Hamilton has won the Democratic nomination for the US Senate in Kansas.
Hamilton, a political outsider who works as a megachurch pastor and author, was selected as the nominee on Tuesday evening shortly after polls closed.
GOP leaders are working to send incumbent Republican Roger Marshall back to the Senate from a state typically seen as a conservative stronghold, but currently has a Democrat in the governor's office.
1932 was the last time Democrats won a US Senate election in Kansas, but the state's current governor, Democrat Laura Kelly, won in 2018 and 2022.
As results rolled in Tuesday night, over a quarter of Republicans came out to vote against Marshall, instead choosing to support his challenger, Pond Naramore.
Hamilton beat out a crowded field in the Democratic primary, besting 10 other candidates.
Hamilton notes on his campaign website that he is 'running for Senate because he believes we need to stop the chaos and corruption in Washington by actually listening and bringing people together to solve problems.'
Per Federal Election Commission (FEC) records, Hamilton has brought in over $4 million, compared to Marshall's $6.2 million.

Incumbent Senator Roger Marshall will face Hamilton in the November general election
In a post on made on X after he was declared the nominee, Hamilton blasted the incumbent Republican.
'Everywhere I go, I’m told Roger Marshall isn't listening. People who voted for him before have said “not again,” Hamilton wrote in the post.
'People ask how a Senator who lives in Florida when he’s not in Washington can know his people, or speak up for their needs. I think it’s a good question,' Hamilton added.
In separate posts, Hamilton also called the incumbent 'a yes man for the President,' also adding, 'What we see happening in Washington is not normal.'
Marshall's social media accounts were less active on Tuesday night. In a post on X,
Marshall congratulated his 'friend Ty Masterson,' for winning the nomination to be 'the next Governor of Kansas,' indicating that the two will be presenting as a united statewide ticket.
After Tuesday's primary results were announced, top campaign prognosticators at the Cook Political Report shifted the race one notch towards Democrats, from Solid to Likely Republican, marking a 'potentially more competitive position.'
