I can’t say I blame Michael Kay. As a baseball fan, it’s saddening.

For 37 consecutive seasons, the legendary broadcaster has covered the New York Yankees on Opening Day. He got his career started in 1987 as a sportswriter for the New York Post, eventually going on to radio in 1992. And then in 2002, that’s when he made the move over to television to cover the pinstripes for YES Network.

It’s been all peachy for Kay, but after nearly 40 years, he’s finally run into a problem: The Yanks‘ 2025 Opening Day game against the Milwaukee Brewers is being exclusively held by ESPN. Meaning, Kay might not be able to work his first opening day game for the franchise in a whopping 37 years.

Originally, Kay caught whiff that ESPN would be broadcasting the contest while live. The broadcaster said he would be “red-hot” if that means YES Network isn’t carrying the game. (RELATED: Rays Halt New Stadium Plans, Deepening Their Dilemma … Could We Now Be Looking At A Relocation To Vegas?)

“If it’s exclusive [to ESPN] I’ll weep,” said Kay.

And then his worst nightmare came true.

“I’m just told by someone in the know — 100 percent exclusive,” said Kay.

If I was Michael Kay, I’d be livid too because, in all reality, you know your iconic streak of 37 INCREDIBLE YEARS is coming to an end because of GREEN PAPER. And then it makes you realize even more … That’s what it’s all about in this cold ass world.

A historic streak just ended because of the filthy loot.
