Michigan’s nightmare start to the college football season just got even worse.
From becoming the villain of the sport after the controversial win over Western Michigan, to losing to Iowa on a last-second touchdown and falling at Minnesota for the first time in nearly 50 years in back-to-back weeks, the Wolverines have seen much better days.
Now, frustration from inside the program is spilling into public view.
After the most recent loss against the Golden Gophers, senior tight end Zack Marshall criticized the program in a private group chat, specifically calling out offensive coordinator Jason Beck.
Unfortunately for Marshall, it did end up leaving the group chat.
Marshall called out Beck, saying that he told the tight end group they were not “valuable” and putting the blame on his play calling for quarterback Bryce Underwood’s lackluster play so far this season.
He even went as far as saying the situation is “way worse” than former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore’s tenure.
The tight end confirmed that his own criticism of the coaching staff was real when he issued an apology on X Tuesday after the leaked messages spread across social media.
Michigan’s athletic department informed Sport & State that the coaching staff is aware of the situation and has discussed the matter with Marshall. They did not comment on whether he will face disciplinary action.
Public complaints from a senior player only five games into the season are not exactly what Michigan needs as the Wolverines enter their bye week.
Especially with currently ranked Penn State, Indiana, Oregon, and Ohio State still waiting on the schedule.
