Live Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 gameplay was shown off, and players were quick to call out the severe muzzle flash and muzzle smoke, which made it almost impossible to see when shooting. Now, Infinity Ward has responded.

Those attending Fanatics Fest in New York got the chance to try out MW4’s brand-new Kill Block map in the Gunfight mode, but players were less than impressed with the visibility when firing weapons — a complaint going all the way back to Modern Warfare 2019.

“Am I supposed to be able to see people while I’m shooting?” asked content creator Marksman. Streamer IceManIsaac said similar: “They are literally flash banging you after every shot.”

Infinity Ward respond to muzzle flash complaints in MW4

After players saw the gameplay live and called out the muzzle flash VFX, Infinity Ward confirmed, “These are pre-release Alpha builds and are still very much a work in progress. The muzzle flash VFX issue in today’s Alpha gameplay is a bug that will be fixed for Beta.”

Then, a day later, the devs provided another update: “We just rolled out a fix for the bugged suppressor that was using the wrong muzzle flash VFX. Additionally, we have reduced muzzle smoke opacity for all weapons for this weekend’s preview sessions.”

Thanks for the feedback from yesterday’s Kill Block streams.

They concluded by saying, “A clear sight picture is critical to the gameplay experience. Keep the energy coming, we’re engaged.”

Infinity Ward also showed a before and after:

While players were delighted with the communication and quick feedback, some still had complaints about the level of visual recoil, which the devs said they’ll be monitoring in the betas.

We don’t know when the betas are, but make sure to tune into the CDL Champs on July 19 for the chance to earn a beta code.
